With spring on the way it’s an excellent opportunity to get away from the pressures of everyday life with a short break in the UK. Those keen to get out and about will enjoy a walk in Heaton Park, which offers great views of the city and the nearby Pentland Hills.
Manchester, of course, is also famous for its football and sports-loving couples could do a lot worse than catch one of the big Manchester teams as they battle it out for Premier League and European glory. With Manchester United seemingly on course for another league win this year, they face a stern challenge from a hungry City side determined to build on the progress of recent seasons and take their bitter rivals down a peg. If you do plan to try and see a football match on your trip to Manchester, be advised that tickets at both Old Trafford and the City of Manchester Stadium are in great demand and will likely need to be booked well in advance.
Those not enamoured by the prospect of football can console themselves with the knowledge that Manchester is blessed with some of the best shopping areas in the United Kingdom outside of London. The city centre is home to all of the major high street chains as well as a number of exclusive designer boutiques ideal for lovers of high fashion. Those with a more quirky taste will enjoy the monthly Manchester Vintage Fashion Market, the perfect place to find that special item to compete an outfit. Manchester is also home to the enormous Trafford Centre, one of the UK's busiest shopping centres boasting dozens of shops, a multi-screen cinema and an impressive food court.
The city is also well-placed for further exploration of England's North-West, with the Lake District easily within reach as part of a daytrip. Car hire at Manchester airport is an ideal way to access the region's hidden treasures, allowing you to turn your romantic break into an experience you won't forget.
