Nowadays, most children enjoy watching cartoons more than other types of television shows. They are entertained by funny stories and scenes depicted by the characters in every cartoon series they watch. What these young minds are not aware of is that even these exciting cartoons have categories. Their differences depend on several factors, including the way they are drawn. In Japan, a specific genre of cartoon known as anime is widely popular. Although the earliest recorded manifestation of anime was in the beginning of the 20th century, it was only in 1960 when Japanese anime was brought to life by the late artist and animator Osamu Tezuka. The first acknowledged anime aired was about a young male robot that fought people who had evil intentions. However, this anime has been revived in modern animation with finer graphics and more dramatic concepts. There is still no concrete definition as to how Western cartoons differ from anime. In fact, some even say that there is basically no difference between the two cartoon styles, except, of course, for minor elements presented in their stories and animation. Japanese animation often feature a more liberated and aggressive flow, although some western animations have this trait as well. In an anime movie, unusual twists are commonly presented, wherein unpredictability is highly observed. Some stories involve the death of main characters, while some stories have protagonists that prevail. Another distinguishing factor of anime is the drawing style used for the cartoons. In an anime movie, many characters have large eyes and expressive faces. Although these features do not apply to all anime characters, this style of drawing is dominantly practiced by Japanese animators. Besides the narrative outline and appearance of characters, a Japanese anime movie is also generally appropriate for all ages. This particular characteristic of anime movies is still being deliberated, though most anime shows actually aim for adults and children alike. Intense action and a bit of romance are the frequent ingredients of storylines for anime series and movies. Regardless of their differences, though, Western animation and anime are adored by people of any age.
