Where to start though? Do you want to hear why douches can be good for you, or do you want to hear about why douches can cause yeast infections. Or for the person who has no idea what a douche is, shall I start there and explain what it is? Choices, choices and I would have been stuck for a while on where to start if it weren’t for the fact that I, myself, had been virtually clueless as to what a douche was and what it did. This being the case I thought there might be a few lost souls out there who had fared the same confusion and bewilderment when confronted with douches – not necessarily literally of course. So to begin with maybe I should mention the little fact that although douche in the United States might mean one thing – vaginal wash – in France the word douche means something else entirely – a bath to be precise. That’s why it’s always better not to get the two meanings mixed up. And that’s why visitors whose native tongue isn’t English should be wary of asking about douches, if what they’re really asking about is bathing. And although douching isn’t all that widely practiced outside of the United States, it still remains that there are a percentage of women who do perform this method of feminine hygiene. Therefore you might find that while a bath is known as a douche in some languages, a douche as we know it will be known as vaginal irrigation, clear, concise and to the point. Anyway, as I was saying there are still a number of women who use a douche to clean themselves with, in and outside of the United States. There are also an equal, if not greater number of women who don’t use douches although the reasons for not doing so do tend to vary. To get back to the mystery of douches though, for those of you who are unaware of what it is, in plain and simple terms, a douche is the name of the method that is used to clean the insides of the vaginal wall, hence why it is called vaginal irrigation in some countries. A device, usually a douche bag or some such thing, is employed to perform this task. Water, vinegar and water solution, or sometimes even antiseptic solutions are used in the cleaning process.
