For the second year running, Cornwall has retained its title as the "Best UK Holiday County or Region" as voted by the public in the 2010 British Travel Awards, beating off all of its competitors. The sterling quality of Cornwall's range of accommodation from cheap hotels to luxury establishments, combined with the beautiful coastal scenery and welcoming atmosphere allowed Cornwall to keep its top spot; close challengers included Cornwall's neighbour Devon, as well as Cumbria in the Lake District. A selection of other awards fell into the counties lap at the ceremony; St Ives won the "Best UK Seaside Town" and the Eden Project, Cornwall's multiple greenhouse environmental project, also scooped up the "Best UK Day Out Experience". Malcolm Bell, Head of Tourism at Visit Cornwall, Cornwall's tourism development company, said: "I am immensely proud to accept these Awards for Cornwall and St Ives. To win at both county and town level is a huge achievement and the fact that the Awards are based on public opinion makes them even more significant." The British Travel Awards are the most recognisable and desirable awards in the British travel industry as they span 70 different holiday categories and include every type of excursion that an intrepid traveller can imagine. From city breaks to adventure holidays, the British Travel Awards seek to demonstrate which destinations are the most favoured in the country, as voted for by the people who take the holidays themselves. The Leisureplex Cottage Hotel overlooking Carbis Bay is ideally placed to explore the picturesque town of St Ives and the rest of Cornwall.
