Because you pay such a low amount of money, the companies don’t get a large revenue. Therefore, they are unable to upgrade and update their systems, or perhaps they can’t even afford their own data center so they rent a bit of space in someone else’s. What this means is that they cannot effectively control the servers they are running, meaning they cannot easily offer the newest versions of, say, PHP and database software, which are a necessity. Next up is the customer support. This a very important aspect of any service, and its no different when it comes to web hosting. You have to know that if something goes wrong, you’ll be able to talk to the support team and get the problem sorted out. However, its very difficult for these providers to offer good levels of support, because they simply do not have the funds to pay the employees. So you end up with no one to help sort out the problem, and your website becomes inactive until they realize by themselves. Then there’s the fact that the security levels are incredibly low. They don’t monitor and perform maintenance on the servers round the clock like larger, more expensive providers, because they cannot afford it. The problem is, this means there is a high possibility that your website could be hacked by people anywhere in the world. This can, of course, be disasterous. And finally, if your website ever needs to grow, you will have to change providers as the low cost ones cannot afford to hosting large sites on dedicated servers, so you’ll have to fight with them to get access to your website’s database and all the details of it on the server before finding another, more suitable provider.
