Panasonic likes to tell people that their TC-P50X3 Viera 50 Plasma HDTV is “ideal for watching action-packed sports, shows, and movies with the family”. Is it really that nice of a TV? Overall Thoughts & Points From Misc. Customer Reviews: The Panasonic TC-P50X3 is a Viera 50? model that renders a plasma screen in 720p HDTV. It uses Panasonic’s 600Hz Sub-field Drive (when the TV is in Cinema mode) to actually break what you see on TV – the actual motion – into small, little dots. By doing this, each frame can be displayed for a shorter time period, minimizing aftereffects. Essentially what happens is that 60 frames are displayed per second. Each frame is then broken further down into 10 “Sub-fields”. This is what makes the actual “movement” on screen look much more fluid and less choppy. The TC-P50X3 takes advantage of several Viera characteristics, including being able to access the internet (including applications like Netflix, Facebook, Pandora, etc) directly from your TV. The set is DLNA/Wi-Fi ready, which lets you network with other Viera and DLNA-compatible device in your home. This means you can stream movies, music, and photos to anywhere in your home that has one of these devices on the network. Speaking of photos, the TV has an SD card slot, meaning you can take your SD card directly out of your HD camera, and put it into the TV for direct and immediate viewing. Customer reviews at Panasonic’s website, Amazon.com, and Best Buy.com have all been overwhelmingly positive – 4 out of 5 stars or more. One customer did note that the screen had a glossy (not a matte) finish, so seeing a reflection from windows or lamps in the screen is possible. Another mentioned that at only 720p, this HDTV doesn’t offer the high resolution other TVs do. However, the same review also noted (and this *is* true) that unles your content – your satellite/cable signal, Blu-Ray, etc – is in 1080p, you won’t see 1080p, anyway. So for those looking to not spend as much money, a 720p will still look great for the majority of media that you’ll be watching. The Panasonic TC-P50X3 Viera 50 Plasma HDTV comes with the TV itself, remote (with batteries), and assorted paperwork and instructions. TC-P50S30 Details and Specifications: Misc.
