The TC-P42S30 Viera 42 Plasma HDTV is one of Panasonic’s mid-priced entries into the 1080p HDTV field. Is it overpriced for what it is, or are you getting what you pay for? Overall Thoughts & Points From Misc. Customer Reviews: Panasonic utilizes several different technolgies to give you a pleasant and improved viewing experience. When connected to a media source (especially an HD source) via HDMI cable, Viera presents all colors with rich color gradation, so everything looks very clear and crisp. Panasonic’s x.v.Color compatibility shows personal movies taken with your HD camcorder with deep and vibrant colors, and the 600Hz Sub-field Drive reduces afterimages, making for much smoother and cleaner looking action. Easy IPTV allows you to access various apps online for your entertainment, including Netflix, Pandora Internet Radio, and Facebook. Game Mode will automatically choose the settings for best presentation during gameplay, and if you hook your various A/V components (DVD player, home theater, camcorder, etc), via HDMI cable, you can use Viera Link to control them all with only the Viera remote. Customer reviews on Best Buy.com, Amazon.com, and Panasonic’s website for this Viera 42 model were mostly very positive – 4 out of 5 or above. Most customers found setup to be very quick and easy, though they did end up doing some fine-tuning to settings in the days/weeks that followed. Those that had access to HD media (Blu-Ray, PS3, HD cable or satellite) were very impressed with the picture the TC-P42S30 provided, even in bright areas. Streaming to the TV was relatively effortless, and pretty much everybody was very pleased with the price point – a great value for the money. Some customers did note that sound was “Ok” at low levels, but at higher levels, it dropped off, and a separate home theater system was generally recommended. (This is pretty common with Panasonic’s Viera line.) Some customers did note that the TV did come with some options they wouldn’t use or would use very little (SD card slot, CATS – adjusts TV’s brightness levels according to how bright the room is), but this is really more up to each individual customer. More than one customer noted that they had tried out LCD and LED screens, and liked this plasma much better. The Panasonic TC-P42S30 Viera 42 Plasma HDTV comes with the TV itself, a removable stand, remote control (including batteries), and assorted paperwork/instructions.
