Dirty Dancing is a trip into the sixties, where viewers witness generational conflicts, misunderstandings, rebellion, love and famous dance scenes first hand. The musical is based on the popular movie Dirty Dancing, which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the leading roles. The musical shows Frances Houseman, known as Baby, and her family moving into the Kellerman's resort in the summer of 1963. There, she gets bored in the midst of the guests; however, her grave mood flies off as soon as she sees the dance instructor Johnny Castle. Finally, she dares to enter the forbidden zone: the accommodation area of the hotel employees. Here, Baby and Johnny come closer, as he teaches her dancing to Dirty Dancing rhythms. Dirty Dancing is a memorable musical, in which dance is a form of seduction. The choreographer Kenny Ortega based all dances and rhythms on the original style of the early sixties. He also successfully mastered to integrate influences from mambo and Cuban rhythms. Following the film, the dance term "dirty dancing" turned into various popular dance styles in the United States. In the year 2004, the musical had its world premier in Sydney, Australia. From that period on, it has been shown all over Europe and still attracts thousands of people into the Aldwych Theatre.
