Many fans of the musical call the show a concert of everything that Michael Jackson did rather than a musical show. Thriller Live debuts as show for the entire family to enjoy with over 2.5 hours of Michael Jackson’s greatest songs. The musical celebrates everything Michael did starting with the Jackson 5 and then getting into his solo years. The show stands as a powerful tribute to the King of Pop. Thriller Live is the brain child of Adrian Grant, a Jackson family friend and author. The show currently plays at one of London’s most prestigious theatres, Lyric Theatre on the West End. It opened at the Lyric on January 2, 2009 and was extended when Michael past away in June of 2009. Adrian Grant wanted to honour the Michael and his music. Grant had originated a British fan club in honour of Michael Jackson in 1988 which grew to over 25,000 members. The fan club then put together an annual tribute show to Michael Jackson who attended the tenth anniversary show. The musical Thriller Live was preceded by a series of books and then Michael Jackson gave his blessing to the creation of Thriller Live but did not contribute to its writing or production in anyway. Critics praise the strong vocal talents of the singers that play Jackson and give the musical high marks for the dance talents of the energetic dancers. In addition the critics praise the way the musical celebrates 40 years of musical production by the iconic Michael Jackson. The musical is definitely a worthy tribute to Jackson’s musical talents. Michael Jackson’s career spanned 40 years of hit songs. The audience enjoys song after hit song. The tribute starts with a young Michael Jackson and follows Michael through song after song as he makes his way through first as a child star and then as an adult. Expect to hear songs like I Want You Back, ABC, Can you Feel It, Off The Wall, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Billie Jean, Dirty Diana, They Don’t Care About Us and Thriller. The show ends with the song Thriller. In the show six people play Michael Jackson at various stages of his life. The cast calls for 21 people in total. Gary Lloyd handles the Choreography and directs the production. The West End production of Thriller Live stars the talent of several singers that portray Michael Jackson. The talent of Zoe Birkett graces the stage of Thriller Live. She made her talents known to British households by winning the female contestant in ITV’s Pop Idol 2002. The cast includes Zoe Birkett, Haydon Eshun, John Moabi, Jason Gray, Scott Maurice, Denzal Daniels and Kofi Agyemang.
