Vocational training in India is provided on a full time as well as part time basis. The training has been successful in India only in industrial training institutes and that too in engineering trades. In India, people are obsessed with attaining a graduation degree and generally look down upon vocational education. This has resulted in a huge shortage of skilled workers. If this trend continues, it would hurt our economic growth in the long run. In India, vocational education is being supervised through the ministry of human resources development. Vocational courses are being offered in school in 11th and 12th slandered accordance with the board's scheme of studies and the course structure. These courses are of two year, one year and six months durations like dairying, machinery, accounting, electrical, X-Ray technician, Beautician, tailoring etc. Vocational training extensively refers to certification level in any trade and helps to the students who had been left school after 8 or 12. Other patterns for regular skill belong to graduation or post graduation, and technician level is supreme by polytechnic or diploma. It would have been better if Indian government had introduced more of vocational centers and institutes for the large masses of children coming out of schools. Then when the children left school, they would have some skill to join an institute and then to get a job in that skill. Even at the school level, it would be more appropriate if the wards were taught some skills like painting, drawing, clay modeling etc. They could have it as an extra - curricular activity which they would enjoy and at the same time get groomed for the skill. This process would enable the students to develop some skills and also show their aptitudes.
