For many people, finding the perfect pair of school shoes for their child is a daunting endeavour. The racks are filled to bursting with shoe styles and although the right pair is undoubtedly buried in the mountain of choices, it can be tough to find it. And if you're shopping for a young child whose attention span demands much more than simply finding shoes, your job will be even more difficult. Luckily, there are a few basic things that you can bear in mind when shopping for shoes to send your child off to school in that will help make the task at hand much simpler than you might imagine. The main thing to think about is whether or not your child will actually wear the shoes in question. Like an adult, each child's personality and style is different and it's important that they have a pair of shoes they want to wear. Otherwise, your money will simply be wasted. Letting them participate in the decision, no matter how young they may be, will help ensure that the shoes in question see plenty of action over the school year. If your child's school has a dress code, be sure that the school shoes you are eyeing will fit within its guidelines. Since they'll be worn for hours at a time, the fit of a new pair of school shoes is vital but can be difficult to ensure when dealing with finicky children. A cushioned sole, flexibility, and the ability to breathe so that not only heat but moisture can escape the shoe are all important aspects to consider. In general, measure the distance between the second toe and the end of the shoe. You're looking for about a half an inch of space. Be sure to check the space along the width as well, with a quarter inch or so on each side considered to be a good fit. And finally be sure that the shoe is made well, and from quality materials. While not all of us can afford to buy the highest line of shoes, spending five bucks on a budget pair of shoes is likely to end with your child needing a new pair of shoes a couple of months later. Kids are hard on shoes, and spending a bit more for a pair that are durable is a good bet. And again, be sure that the shoe can breathe somewhat to help reduce the dreaded "stinky feet" syndrome.
