This kind of directory lists all (or almost all) of the American boarding schools across different states. There are many different kinds of boarding school and a good directory should include these in order to give people an idea of the schools in an area. There are military schools, pre-professional arts schools, therapeutic boarding schools, traditional schools and more. Using a directory would also help you easily find schools that will meet the needs of your child since many of them will have many useful information about the listed institutions. There aren't that many schools that admit young people as boarding students. Most will have day classes for students up to the sixth or ninth grade. If you're looking for an American boarding school that will admit very young students, there are slim pickings for you. There are only two schools, for example, that admit students as young as the second grade; The Golden Tree Academy in Pennsylvania and the Oakland School in Virginia. It's not usual for schools in the US to admit young students, although it's a common practice for other countries, particularly in the UK. Military boarding schools are different from boot camps and many of them are all-boys schools although you can already find many coeducational military schools in the country such as the Wentworth Military Academy, the Florida Air Academy, Howe Military School, New York Military Academy, and more. While these schools are traditionally meant just for boys, many schools are already opening their schools to girls as well. Most (if not all) coeducational schools have separate living facilities for boys and girls. The students are brought together on a few selected opportunities for social interaction. In some schools, boys and girls have classes together. A few schools believe that boys and girls have different learning styles and so they have separate, single-sex core classes and only get together in a few classes. Schools that focus on pre-professional arts or sports are specialized schools that aim to prepare students in certain athletic or artistic disciplines. Of course there may still be other extra-curricular activities but the main focus is clear. It's quite advantageous for children who exhibit proficiency in a particular subject matter. For example, in pre-professional arts schools, the education of students are further enriched by talking with practitioners of the arts who can give them advice not just on how to be an excellent artist but also on how to market their work, how to meet agents, how to start an exhibit, and more. Athletes can benefit from teachers and guest educators who are local or international athletic stars and give them a broader perspective on what they want to do after school, or really give them a good and clear track to follow. Many American boarding schools are college preparatory in nature. They give guidance and counseling to students who want to enter college. It's not just a matter of meeting the grade requirements (although this is a big factor), it's also a matter of understanding the application process and going through it in an organized way. There are many kinds of boarding schools in the country, and the best way to find the right fit for your child is to research them and find out if their program and facilities are what fits your child's needs.
