The Importance of Cardiovascular Work-Outs in Losing Weight

Ever since you were little, and most of your school life, you had physical education as one of your minor subjects. This just goes to show that exercise played an important part of your life, and helped you to remain fit.

As you grow older, you become conscious of your over-all physical well-being and, especially, your figure. Now that you have added some weight, your thoughts turn to losing the extra baggage. If anyone tells you that you do not need exercise or any form of physical activity to lose weight, then, that person is just wrong. Combined with eating a healthy diet, exercise is the most effective way to shed your extra pounds and excess fat. No-one can stress this more than a doctor or any medical specialist, for that matter.

Cardiovascular exercises, in particular, increase your heart rate and strengthen your lungs. They assist in healthy blood circulation. Also, they speed up your metabolism which is essential to losing weight. The good thing about this kind of exercise is that you can do it several times a week without getting injured. For you to get the full benefits of this kind of work-out, you should do it properly and be consistent.

There are different types of cardio exercises so you need to choose one suited to you and your overall state of health. Be informed of the number of calories that you take in by reading the label on the foods you buy. Note that there is a cardio exercise to match the calories you need to burn.

Here are the three kinds of cardio exercises.

Impact activities - These are exercises that give some impact on your heart rate. People who are extremely overweight can engage in this kind of activity, such as walking. They will be able to burn some calories, for example, 170 calories while maintaining a speed of 4mph.

High impact activities - the words describe them well. These are exercises that raise the heart rate to a very high level. People who want to lose their excess weight by sweating it out can go for these activities. They could burn about 270 calories when running 5mph or burn 300-400 calories in a one hour session of step aerobics.

Whole-Body activities - These are exercises that involve all the muscles of the body. People who enjoy a full body work-out could choose these, such as, swimming where you could burn about 270 calories. Knowing your weight and the number of calories you take in through the food you eat, you can now engage in the cardio exercise that would suit you to lose the excess weight while enjoying your work-out.
