The days of painfully slow dial up internet connections are finally gone. Everybody has taken to the new breed of high speed internet. It’s not exactly a problem of plenty but there are enough choices to warrant confusions. The three main sources of fast track internet are cable, satellite and DSL. Each of them has its peculiar points which give it a differentiating factor. The debate is not about which is the best choice; it’s the assessment of which one suits you the best. All these mediums have defining advantages over the traditional dial up connection. First and foremost, they let you use both the internet and telephone at the same time, which is a real privilege if you know the trouble of constant cable switching. It requires an underground cable connection, which doesn’t necessarily mean using a cable TV. The major drawback with a cable connection is that its speed is dependent on the no. of simultaneous users. In other words the speed from backend is divided amongst the active users, hence more the users, lesser the speed for each. On the positive notes, the charges for cable connection are generally more economical than others, especially if it’s a composite plan with cable TV. DSL connections are setup over the telephone lines instead of cables. As a result it is always offer steady speed irrespective of the number of users. DSL internet plans start at very low costs and climb up with higher speeds and usage criteria. Satellite connections work through satellite dishes which receive and transmit internet to and from satellite. It’s ideally suited for remote areas where cable and telephone lines are not accessible. However, with time these are also gaining popularity across cities as well. You need to study your requirements and choose the option that meets your requirements the best.
