With the continued slow economic recovery and its perpetuating of a dismal job market, the outlook for the unemployed appears bleak with many asking, “Where do I go from here?” Now, more than ever, the importance of finding stable employment is at an all-time high. There seems to be two general options. One route is to dissect the job search boards and classified ads multiple times a day and take the first employment opportunity that becomes available. For the many that are facing serious economic hardship, there is not an alternate option. However; for those people who have lost their job, but may have some financial cushion, the silver lining of a lay-off is the time it provides for a return to school and to charter a new career course. According to a United States Department of Labor study completed in December of 2009, “Overall job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to be excellent… Employment of RNs is expected to grow much faster than the average through 2018.” More than simply another job, nursing and medical assistants are stable careers with an outstanding forecasted future. There are several nursing schools in Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA that will capably provide quality instruction. Only a handful provides a wider range of programs in the nursing fields including Medical Assisting and Health Sciences. If you find yourself at a career crossroads it would make sense to select the route with the brightest future and a nursing school with the most lanes.
