In earlier times, it was found that the patients who were confined to the bed because of some illness faces the problem of bed sores. These are the lesions which are caused because of the constant pressure as well as friction of the bed because of people used to lie on the bed for prolonged period of time. So in order to find the solution for this problem, most of the caretakers try to lift the patients at regular intervals of time or they make the use of discount wheelchairs for taking them out for a fresh air. But this was not considered to be a good solution because every time the patient is not in stage of moving up and getting out for fresh air. In order to deal with such kind of problems, now people have discovered a comforting way. These are called the pressure mattresses. There are mainly two types of pressure relieving mattresses which are dynamic and static. In simple as well as basic terms, difference can be made on the basis of conditions of the patients so that their safety as well as comfort can be maintained. • Modern Mattresses: These are the static pressure relieving mattresses which are made up of the modern materials. The designing of these mattresses are done is such a way that they can provide the long-term rest and care to the elder and ill people. These types of mattresses are best suited in the conditions when patients are in the bed for most of the time of day but they move at periodic intervals. This helps the patients in maintaining their comfortable position and hence prevents the ulcers from being developed. Pressure mitigation can be easily allowed because of the materials used in them. This can be achieved because these materials can be easily adjusted into a specific shape and weight according the body of the patient. • Dynamic Pressure Relieving Mattresses: These are considered to be the critical care tools. These mattress systems make use of the controlled and dynamic air pressure cells so that mattress can be adjusted in the constant according to the needs of the patients. The body of the mattress can be formed by the cells which are vertical columns and are pressurized with air in an individual manner. As a result, a patient can have high degree of relief in accordance with the minimal intervention.
