When people choose to install new laminate flooring in their home, one of their most important decisions is whether to do the installation themselves or whether to hire a professional to install the laminate flooring. This decision can be affected by many factors, including the cost to hire someone, the availability of the person, and the time constraints that are involved in the installation. Many people choose to install their own laminate flooring. Although it is a big project, it is something that is very possible for someone who is self sufficient and comfortable operating tools and doing work with their hands. If you have decided to perform your own laminate flooring installation, you have a high likelihood of completing the project successfully, especially if you follow a few simple tips. One of the most important elements of installing laminate flooring correctly is planning carefully. Before installing the laminate flooring, remove the old flooring carefully. Grind down any areas that are uneven, using a level to ensure that the base of the floor is flat and straight. When you decide to install laminate flooring, decide the direction that you want the planks to face and then carefully pay attention to the direction of the grain of each plank when you install it. By planning this part of the installation carefully, you ensure the continuity of the laminate flooring. Another part of planning the installation of laminate flooring is measuring the lengths of each plank and cutting them carefully so that they fit the contours of the room uniformly and precisely. It is often recommended that people leave a gap of one to ten millimeters between the walls and the edges of the flooring so that there is room for expansion. Begin installing the laminate flooring in one corner of the room and work your way across. It can be very helpful to use chalk to mark the exact location of planks so that they are installed perfectly straight and evenly. Laminate flooring planks are generally equipped with grooves that allow them to be fitted together perfectly. Avoid adjusting and rejoining planks excessively during the installation because every time they are relocked they will become increasingly loose. Although it is not always necessary, it is particularly advisable that the joints of laminate flooring planks be sealed with glue in areas where moisture typically accumulates, such as the bathroom. Wipe off any excess glue before it dries to avoid problems. If you are using calk or glue in the installation of the laminate flooring, it is essential that you allow it to dry before resuming normal use of the room. This is particularly common in the bathroom. Regardless of the location of the laminate flooring, it should always be swept and cleaned once the installation is complete. A dust mop or dry mop can be extremely useful in for sweeping laminate flooring. Always avoid getting laminate flooring completely wet because this can cause irreparable damage to the floor. By caring for the laminate flooring properly once it has been installed, you are able to maintain the beauty of the floor for years to come.
