Princess Margaret also found reasons to visit often and a large hospital is named after her. The renegade king of England was sent there as governor which got him out from under of Churchill's feet. The black sheep of the royal family was a known to be a supporter of the Nazis. The first name for the territory was 'the shallow seas' because more than seven hundred islands poke their heads above the ocean. Smaller ones are often uninhabited and may be bought as the ultimate status symbol. Like an expensive car or art masterpiece an island is an investment that can be enjoyed for itself. Space and privacy are increasingly rare commodities. Owning an island means that uninterrupted views of the sea cannot be blocked by a neighbor's TV aerial and unwanted visits can easily be discouraged. Foreigners may buy land in the territory, and a sign 'PROPERTY FOR SALE BAHAMAS' may catch the attention of all those dreaming of an MLM business that will net them large fortunes. The stable democratic government guarantees the property rights of owners based on a long tradition of law. A land tax, based on the value of the property paid to the government and the normal legal fees will have to be met. Thereafter one may by an island or smaller piece of property, depending on one's means.
