Most monokinis are really not designed for active swimming, more for lounging on the beach or around the pool. They are going to attract attention.
The only downside of the monokini is that because of its revealing nature, it isn't the best choice for athletic type bodies or activities. So beach volleyball is out. However, it more than makes up for that with how customizable it is. Monokinis are all about fashion, so many women accessorize them to a much greater extent than they would any other kind of swimsuit. Necklaces and bracelets with wooden beads or metallic coins are often seen paired with monokinis. It's more than acceptable to wear heels or wedge shoes with a monokini, something that would rarely be done with a one piece or even a bikini. Care should be taken when wearing a monokini as unusual tan lines are likely to develop due to the cut outs.
