Each of these types of light bulbs is named for its method of operation. Halogen bulbs contain halogen gas, fluorescent bulbs work on the principle of phosphorescence, LEDs contain light emitting diodes, and incandescent light bulbs are incandescent or heat driven. Within each category of light bulb, there different shapes and sizes of bulb. Incandescent light bulbs are some of the most commonly used as well as the oldest light bulbs to be used in homes. They are relatively inexpensive to manufacture and there are many types of incandescent light bulbs which are meant to fulfill the needs of nearly any room in any situation.Probably the most common types of incandescent light bulbs are used for general lighting. These are the pear shaped bulbs that are commonly thought of when people mention incandescent light bulbs. These bulbs are often measured in watts, which not only explain the amount of electricity that is required in their operation; it also explains the intensity of light that is emitted. These light bulbs radiate the same amount of light in all directions. They are suitable for use in overhead lighting, recessed lighting, ceiling fans, stand up lamps, table lamps, and many other types of light fixtures that are used to provide basic lighting to an entire room or area.There are also incandescent light bulbs that are called reflector light bulbs. These incandescent light bulbs employ an aluminum coating that enables their light to be directional. This type of light is recommended within a home as accent lighting. Reflector bulbs can highlight certain decorations or artwork within the room, creating a focal point and a decorative effect. These light bulbs are also very effective as spotlights or flood lights. Many people use them on the exterior of their home for security lighting purposes.Incandescent light bulbs also come in a variety of shapes and sizes and provide many decorating options. There are incandescent light bulbs meant to resemble flames that were originally present in chandeliers that were lit by candlesticks. There are many other shapes and sizes of bulbs that serve decorative purposes as well as providing light. There are also colored bulbs, which can add sophistication, playfulness, or a stylized look to a room. As you consider the incandescent light bulbs that you use on the interior and exterior of your home, you will certainly encounter many different types of bulbs that have certain applications. By utilizing a variety of types of light bulbs as they plan and design their personal space, people are able to create a look that is individual, unique, and attractive.
