Accounting courses teach probability, statistics and analytics because accountants need to be skilled with various mathematic methods. Public accountants need to take a special test that results in certification. In addition, public accountants must also hold a state license for their profession. Skills required. Not everyone can be an accountant. Along with education, a person needs to have some other skills. Because of the job's nature, accountants must be able to commit to their professions and possibly work more than 50 hours a week. They should also have solid problem solving and analytical skills, two things that many colleges can't teach.
