There is a certain sophistication that comes with outdoor lighting. For the home, it can add a sense of status, while for businesses, they can add a sense glamour, especially to a restaurant, hotel or guest house. However, outdoor lighting is not restricted to floodlighting on the front of a building, but also includes the more modest bollard lights that can be dotted around the grounds or car parks of a business property. Such lights are easily available and are very affordable. In fact, most lighting wholesale businesses will have a wide variety of models on display, ensuring the one that is needed is available to buy. But while costs are always a consideration, it is what these lights can bring that matters most, perhaps creating a warm, confident feel for a hotel, for example, as a recessed fire rated downlight might have a modernising effect for any high street shop. There are clear advantages to using bollards to illuminate the outside of a home or business. They are, of course, very different to other outdoor lights. The bollard, while serving a practical purpose, is primarily decorative, as the quality of its light is rather low and is not designed for the same purposes as a spotlight. Many restaurants and hotels, for example, will use bollards to highlight their garden grounds at night, illuminating the edge of lawns, tree verges and shrubs along pathways as a type of enticement to passers by. And when used to complement the exterior facade lighting that is used by many hospitality businesses, it can add that extra warmth to the appearance of the building. While bollards are sufficient as verge guides along a driveway or pathway, they are insufficient to light the way fully. That is why they are amongst the more cost efficient lights to be used outdoors, with low energy burning bulbs preferred. This means not drain on electrical power, and, in turn, the electrical bill is not affected much. Also, the fact that these lights are only on at night time, with models that turn on automatically at twilight and turn off at dawn, means that they are easily regulated. The most efficient to purchase are solar powered bollards. These are usually the more expensive to buy, but whatever the difference is in the initial prices is made up easily by the savings on electricity. Since these bollards are powered by a free power source, namely the rays of the sun, the running and maintenance costs are minimal. The solar cells must be kept clear, and the rechargeable battery, which charges during the day, needs to be replaced after a number of years. Of course, since a key factor is using outdoor lights is actually landscaping, an individual will always have a preferred choice of bollard. And, with many sizes and designs available to choose from, there is little chance of being unable to find the perfect one. However, one of the chief issues when choosing is whether the bollards should be obvious to the eye or not in daylight. For the more subtle in appearance, low satin black bollards are common, such as the Lavello energy saving models. Their weather sealed cast iron casing ensures a durability in all kinds of weather conditions, while the use of a 26w bulb means it makes huge saving on electricity. They are available in a range of heights, but with a vandal proof louvered head and solemn sturdiness, they are long lasting and highly reliable, making them ideal for company car parks or hotel driveways. Another type is the slender stainless steel models that are available from Campania, which is even less noticeable in daylight. They also boast a louvered head, which serves to direct the light downwards, preventing the glare that drivers find so distracting. The stainless steel casing makes for a cleaner, more contemporary look, which is ideal when they are expected to complement a similar exterior building design. Both of these kinds of bollard lights can be picked up at any lighting wholesale provider, but the variety of finishes ensures that there is always a bollard to suit. Of course, just as a fire rated downlight is preferred above a downlight of less secure design, bollards with IP54 certification, which indicates protection against rain, snow, dust and other small airborne debris, ensure a longer span of the lights and makes the investment well worthwhile.
