The scientist and the team of his assistance managed to prove the possibility of the functional RNA, DNA, and protein molecules selection from the pools of random sequences provided the volume of this pool exceeds some critical limit. And as early as in 2007 he got his first prominent academic award, Pathway to Independence, from the National Institute of Health! He became famous for his work in the field of directed evolution. He got a brilliant idea to apply Darwinian principles to populations of molecules instead of organisms through the implementation of micro-fluidic technology. That gave him the opportunity to observe the evolution in real-time mode! Currently he enjoys the position of an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Scripps Research Institute in the sunny state of Florida. As you see, besides the medical practice in capacity of some kind of health care specialist, the research in this field also allows building successful and self-fulfilling careers, which also let one earn pretty good living too!
