There was a point in time when people only dreamt of remotely witnessing events in other locations. The dream ended and turned to reality in the 1800s, when the idea of photoconductivity, the creation of the scanning disk, and the introduction of motion-capture recording technology were fused together to come up with one of the greatest inventions in history—the television. The first concept is about the tendency of materials to increase its electrical conductivity through electromagnetic radiation absorption. The scanning disk, on the other hand, is a device developed by Paul Gottlieb Nipkow. This is a device with equally-distanced holes where images are projected as the disk is rotated. After all the ideas were combined to make images move, a mechanism known as the cathode ray tube was integrated into television technology in 1907. This gadget is a vacuum cylinder containing an electron source and a fluorescent screen. It also has internal and external channels to allow acceleration and deflection of electron beams, which create images with better resolutions. Colored television came after all these, and up to this day, experts are still striving to better picture quality. Liquid-crystal displays are the innovations that replaced traditional cathode ray tube televisions. Although television is still considered the main medium, the rise of the Internet has provided people with alternatives to watch TV shows free. Through the Internet, people can now watch TV shows free as long as they have a computer with an internet connection. Missing episodes and waiting for reruns are already forgotten habits. Because episodes are available online and on demand, people can get updated with their favorite programs on their own time. This is the reason why the number of habitual television viewers has dwindled in recent years. When people watch TV shows free online, they can also perform other Web activities. They can search other sites and update their social networking accounts while viewing episodes of their preferred shows. Unlike in television where, for the most part, there is a one-time only viewing policy, online TV streaming allows viewers to return to their programs over and over again. Although the television has not yet been knocked out from its position, the Internet is definitely hot on its trails.
