People ask me all the time, do I need a Multi Monitor Trading Computer for trading? Can’t I use my Laptop? The answer is very straight forward. You need a multi monitor trading computer if you are going to be successful as a trader. Don’t get caught in the mistake of thinking that you can renovate an old computer or laptop and make it into a fast trading computer. There are several reasons laptops do not work for trading. First is that the processors used in 99.5 percent of laptops are way to slow compared to the desktop siblings. These small processors were designed for miniaturization and even though it may say Intel Core i5 they are usually 50% slower than the desktop version of the core i5. Second, trying to navigate on a laptop touchpad can be extremely frustration and slow. The touchpads on laptops can never match the navigation speed of a hand held mouse. As traders we need the most amount of desktop real estate possible so we can view multiple charts over multiple markets and timeframes simultaneously. With a laptop you are forced to keystroke or click back and forth from screen to screen and this results in loss of precious time for decision making as well as a lot of frustration. Laptops are simply too slow, too hard to navigate and do not provide eno ugh screen space to help traders be successful. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can make your laptop your trading computer. A multi monitor trading computer is the way to go. Why? First, desktops are inherently faster than laptops and you get a lot more for the money in terms of computing power and speed. Second, having a multi monitor trading computer means having at least 3 or more screens. This gives you the ability to have all of your charts and timeframes up simultaneously, as well as your order bar, browsers, chat and anything else you need that is mission critical to your trading. There is no need to click and click and click to locate the widow you need open. There is more time to make good decisions and in the long run this is much less stressful.
