It’s hard to believe that this is the last Harry Potter film ever to be reviewed. Deathly Hallows part 2 brings to a close the most successful franchise in the history of movies. The end was inevitable and expected, but now that it’s finally here you can’t help wishing that there was just one more to come. The characters and their environments are so comfortable and recognizable that each new film gave you the impression you were making your annual trip to visit far flung friends. There will obviously be a few complaints about this film, more than likely from the purist quarters who complain on a yearly basis about the transition from the written word to the big screen. Harry Potter fans however will lap it up and it has to be said that it’s hard to think of how they could have wrapped up this epic series any better. While not perfect, no film is, it shoots to the top of the tree where summer blockbusters are concerned. It is a hugely enjoyable romp, intelligent, provoking, poignant and packed full of destruction and stunning special effects. It will probably be the fastest 2 hours you have ever spent at a movie house, the action is so fast paced that trips to the bathroom etc. are not recommended. Those who have lived under a rock for the past decade and have never seen a Harry Potter film should avoid this at all costs, they simply won’t have a clue what’s going on! The film rightly assumes that you know who everyone is and what is going on, and there is no time wasted on recaps. In all honesty, the recap would probably have to be 3 times the length of the film, so they have sensible dispensed with this altogether. So we know that Voldemort had recovered the powerful and unique Elder wand, and it is with this that he intends to finally kill off Harry. Harry, in the meantime, along with trusty reliables Ron and Hermione, is trying desperately to track down the remaining Horcruxes. These are magical items that contain the last remnants of Voldemorts soul, and are the lynchpin to his demise. Half of them have already been destroyed and the race is on to find the last ones, if even one remains Voldemort can’t be defeated, and the world is doomed. With the assistance of the goblin the trio rescued from the total crackpot Bellatrix Lestrange, they manage to break into Gringotts the goblin bank to retrieve one and then start on a final journey back to Hogwarts where another is rumoured to exist. Inevitably, Voldemort finds out about this and plans an assault on the famous school that will result in the ultimate battle between good and evil, in the shape of Harry and Voldemort. This is the greatly simplified version of a brilliant film, you leave the theater feeling like you’ve come off the world largest roller coaster and can’t quite believe what you’ve just experienced. A perfect farewell to Harry and his friends, they will be sadly missed but the books and films will live forever. Watch Harry Potter Online
