Big Brother is alive and well on planet Earth! Let us all be thankful that he is. Mainly, because he is busy protecting the good law abiding citizens in many of the democracies of this world. Actually anyone who read George Orwell book in nineteen eighty-four will realize that the Big Brother of that world is alive. That he might be in some not so democratic parts of the world. However, no one can blame technology for what is going on there. All technology can do is what people tell it to. Orwell wrote about a place where there were only three global powers left and they were so paranoid that they constantly spied on their people. That was where he saw where the world going. However, it did not happen, the world changed, but not in the way, people saw it. Our world is a quickly changing and in some ways, it is a dangerous place to be. However, Big Brother is there to help us and protect us when we need it. If you walk the streets of London (or any major city) at night, the chances are you will be watched, not just by observers, but also by an army of cameras. Many of these cameras are of which obvious to see, but many will be covert spy cameras. They are there to keep an eye on things and to protect the innocent, from surprise attacks or unsuspecting criminal activities that could pose to be a harmful in some way. Spy cameras have been around since the invention of the modern camera. This would be about one hundred and seventy years ago. The first ones would have been big awkward things carried about with difficulty. By the First World War, it became possible to use them to take photos of enemy positions and to take the photos back to your own people to look at them and work out a response. This device is a valuable piece of intelligence gathering equipment. World War II could mount the cameras mounted into planes that flew over enemy territory and took photos. The Allies had to develop elaborate ruses to fool the Germans about D-day because of the spy cameras in the planes! Actually the first mini spy camera was made in 1937 in Latvia and was used extensively by all sides in World War II. By the 1960s spy cameras and the pictures they took almost caused a nuclear war when the Americans found out that the Soviets had placed Nuclear Missiles in Cuba. Get them out or we will blow them out, was President Kennedy demand, and the spy camera showed its value. It showed that a free nation using the technology could not be so easily manipulated anymore. Today the covert spy camera is very much a part of our society. Not many like them as they do not like the idea that someone might be looking in on what they are doing. However, how many of us have used Google Earth to look something up. The technology came from the spy camera. Spy cameras can be mounted in anything, and they often are. Just like in the movies they can placed inside, mobile phones and radios. We do not think of them as being covert, but it is just the same. The camera is still there. Covert spy cameras hide the fact that they are cameras; they are primarily used when you want to film something you want to keep private. For example, a private detective wants to record a meeting of his target or investigate someone cheating on his or her spouse or conducting a shady business deal. The flexibility of the spy camera, and the way technology has brought about miniaturization. has meant that it can take on more and more roles. It can help the private detective to get his (or her) man (or woman), it can help keep us safe and even help other nations to manage their traffic problems. It also aids in apprehending motorists who drive too fast or too dangerously. These days the spies do not need to use the hidden camera any more. They just hack into the database of whatever they need and use the internet to download it to wherever he or she needs it. However, the spy cam is still here and being used to great benefits. The recent events in the Middle East have turned the use of the spy camera on its head as the people there have been recording what was really happening and letting the world know. The covert spy camera is here to stay, Big Brother is here, and he is helping in his own way to make our world a safer place, and all at a reasonable price.
