Franki deMerle was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. She now lives in the Pacific Northwest. Her name is on the Wall of Tolerance at the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama. She is a founding member of the Build the Dream Foundation, building a memorial to Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr in Washington, DC. She is a former professional musician and a retired civilian employee of the United States Army. Her hobbies include yoga, gardening, knitting, and, of course, music. As well as poetry and novels, she has also written music and songs. Her Books: Ripples on the Surface Ripples on the Surface by Franki deMerle is a compilation of poetry written from 1969 through 2005. The author’s proceeds go directly to Global Partners for Development to help women in Uganda with HIV/AIDS start their own businesses. This enables them to provide for their families, send their children to school, and help break the cycle of poverty. The poetry itself is in the author’s own style, which disregards common punctuation, and deals with the author’s perceptions and emotions about life, Nature, and the human condition. This collection was self-published to avoid editorial intervention and as a fundraiser for women in Uganda with HIV/AIDS. Deception Past Deception Past by Franki deMerle is the story of a girl whose Catholic upbringing leaves no room for her past life. From her earliest memories, Sand Strasburg has known that the life she is living is not her first. Sand’s story is told by Brenda Campbell through the use of tarot cards. Though a generation apart, Brenda grew up as Sand’s neighbor, and both women’s lives are filled with pain and betrayal. As a friend of Brenda’s uncle, Sand is the only strong female role model in Brenda’s life. Sand grew up during the turbulence of 1960s Alabama. He is a retired officer, and he turns out to be the man of Daphne’s dreams. When she meets him, the Major is preoccupied with his recent retirement. He and Daphne fall in love, and then she and Deandra discover their hidden pasts. Together, while living in the Pacific Northwest, they explore their past lives and what the past means for them in the present.
