When you are taking a short trip the last thing you want to do is spend much of your time traveling to and from your destination. Check flying midweek and Saturday for the cheapest rates. • Given that gas is over $4 a gallon in many locations, you should minimize how far you have to drive. However, if you are determined to drive, look into renting a car since most rental companies offer unlimited mileage which will save wear on your car. Also by renting, you may be able to select a car that gets better mileage than your personal vehicle. • If you have the time to wait and watch and can leave with little notice, you can save hundreds of dollars on cruises. Cruise companies offer many three to five day Caribbean packages that can cost under $200 per person, not including airfare.
