Why Conservatories With Oak Frames Are Conservatories UK Home Owners Believe In

Home Improvement,Construction,Home Repair
The oak conservatory has a number of advantages over the common, low cost version that is so prevalent today. Appearance is one of them, certainly, but other aspects to the oak option that serve to ensure that these are the conservatories UK home owners get the greatest sense of security, luxury and reliability from.

The simple fact is that oak framed conservatories offer far more in terms of durability than the alternatives. In fact, many examples of oak buildings across Britain and Europe are 400 and 500 years old, proving that oak was always meant to stand. While conservatories are an obvious building that can take full advantage of this, orangeries and garden rooms also benefit.

The true attraction of oak framed buildings lies beyond it being able to recreate that old world character of which UK architecture is famed. The aesthetic effect is important, of course, but there are other aspects that attract the discerning UK home owner to the oak option. In essence, these relate to thermal efficiency, durability and security.

Although the UK is not synonymous with extreme weather conditions, winters can be harsh on occasion, and summers can be sweltering. In both these cases, contemporary conservatory materials tend to struggle to deal with the conditions. An icy cold winter night is likely to see occupants steer clear of the conservatory because of low temperatures affected by the conditions outside. In a hot summer, meanwhile, the heat within the structure can be high enough to make one feel very uncomfortable, prompting every window to be opened.

In terms of thermal efficiency, oak wood is amongst the most efficient available. In fact, hardwood frames are calculated to have almost three times more thermal efficiency than traditional frames, with a U value for 2.0. What this means is that the oak wood releases heat in winter, and absorbs heat in summer, ensuring more clement temperatures inside the conservatory.

Outside, wood can be affected by the rise and fall of temperatures, the effect of relentless rain, and the sleet and snow that can mark periods of the winter. Even in summer, with the prevalence of light sun showers followed quickly by hot sun, there is the potential for damage.

However, oak has a natural immunity to the elements because it contains natural resins that keep the wood protected. This means it is not actually necessary to treat oak frames for protection against weather conditions and temperatures that can, at the very least, fluctuate considerably.

Of course, the fact that a conservatory is built with a naturally protected wood does not mean that it should be left completely vulnerable. Most oak conservatories are given an extra hand by being oiled in any case, while the wood can also be painted with micro porous paints. These paints protect the wood but allow it to breathe and allows moisture to escape through the wood. Though usually applied to provide the type of finish desired, in many cases, two or three coats of this paint is applied.

However, designs also insist on roof cappings that can protect the joints in the structure fully. That is why aluminium weather cappings are usually coated in polyester powder to ensure the highest standards of protection and finish.

The coating effectively provides a smooth surface that enables rainwater to run swiftly off the roof and prevents any dampness at all from reaching the wood below. Should the conservatory in question have finials and crests, which are often made of cast aluminium, these are also powdered to ensure complete protection.

Understandably, UK home owners are concerned about security in the home and how it may be affected by the addition of a conservatory. However, hardwood conservatories can come with modern multi point locking systems, if it is desired. The high quality oak frame also allows for similarly secure locking systems to be installed in windows, whether on the facade or on the roof.

The concept of quality is synonymous with oak framed conservatories which, when erected by an experienced company, is set to stand for generations. However, in the modern world practical advantages are also important, especially when extensions such as conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms, are viewed as investments to improve home life and increase the house value. In every way then, by opting for oak conservatories UK home owners will benefit.

Kathryn Dawson writes articles about David Salisbury, is a UK manufacturer of quality pool enclosures, wooden rooms, orangeries and conservatories uk that has over 25 years of experience. Satisfying over thousands of clients across the UK, David Salisbury offers hardwood conservatories and orangeries which are exclusively from carefully selected timber, truly believing that their products are second to none.
