Geographers have started using the resistivity method extensively as a tool to measure the resistivity of soils and rocks. The process uses a complicated and sophisticated tool called a resistivity meter. This is one of the many tools used by scientists to better understand the earth’s geography. This is one of the newest techniques that is making great scientific progress. The methods are commonly called Geo Vision in the field. The ones who specialize in running this equipment and interpreting its data are often referred to as GeoVision geophysicists. The word geo vision is used because we are more able to see the physical characteristics of what goes on beneath us. Software has been developed that allows us to take the data that comes back to the machines and turn it into two dimensional imagery. This allows scientists to paint a remarkably accurate picture of our sub-geographic landscape. How does it Work? Two put it simply; it works by injecting the earth with electrical currents with the use of two electrodes. Certain data differences are measured between the electrodes and complicated mathematical procedures are done in the machine to give scientist data about earth beneath it. Geophysicists gather the data from the machines and can use it to determine a variety of things. They can use the information to make strati graphical maps. They can use it to measure differences between the surface of the earth and various things, like groundwater and bedrock. These are just a few of the things used to define the characteristics of the subsurface hydrogeology.
