A single mother from Essex has been awarded a seven figure sum in compensation for a car accident, after insurers of the at-fault driver admitted liability, the Essex Echo reports. The December 2009 car crash took place along the Miles Gray Road in Basildon and happened when the female victim, driving down the road, was struck head on by a Ford Ka travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the other vehicle, a 76 year old male, had lost consciousness at the wheel and subsequently lost control of the car. He died at the scene of the accident, and it was later revealed that the man was suffering from a heart condition at the time of the incident. The claimant, a 48 year old cleaner, suffered life changing personal injuries in the crash and while her cognitive abilities have been unaffected by the accident, she is likely to be reliant upon a wheelchair for the rest of her life. The newspaper claims that a settlement has now been agreed with the deceased’s insurers and the woman is to receive a large, undisclosed settlement. The family’s personal injury lawyer commented on the car accident compensation, by saying "The settlement figure is calculated according to our client's needs for the rest of her life. We're glad the claim was agreed collaboratively and swiftly without the need for a trial, especially as many legal firms would have baulked at the case because of the unfortunate nature of the accident."
