Asking yourself the questions whether there is a tremendous or any difference between the green lasers and other types of lasers is pretty normal. However, in order to answer that question objectively, it is important to mention what is actually the factor that determines the color of a laser pointer i.e. what’s the difference between green lasers and blue lasers or between green lasers and red lasers, at an entirely technical level. Things are not as complicated as most of the people probably think they are. Basically, each laser pointer is constructed so as to evolve light waves of particular length. And it is exactly the length of the light waves that determines what the color of the laser beam will be. For instance, red lasers evolve light waves whose length is around 700 nanometers; violet lasers evolve light waves whose length is more or less 400-420 nanometers; and green lasers evolve waves whose length is 500-550 nanometers. So that is it what differs green lasers from the lasers whose beam is of any other color. But let’s get back to the main question: does it matter whether green lasers or, say, blue lasers will be used for a particular purpose. The best, and most accurate, way to answer that question is to say that it mainly depends on the purpose itself. For instance, there are cases in which it does not quite matter whether green lasers or lasers whose beam is of another color will be used. What could be pointed as an example is the lasers’ appliance as “astronomy tools”. Many people use lasers so as to show particular objects in the sky more easily and effortlessly. Everybody knows that pointing at a start with finger is quite a difficult way to show which star exactly you are talking about. Explaining its location is also not likely to be effective unless interlocutors are really knowledgeable about astronomy. So that’s why lasers are used, as their beam (the dot) is thin enough to show even the smallest objects on the sky but it is also powerful enough to reach the sky’s surface. Understandably, in that case, it does not matter whether green lasers, violet lasers or any other type of lasers will be used. After all, the main purpose is to show the particular object on the sky surface. At the same time, green lasers are usually used during presentations and lectures by teachers and tutors. There is not a particular reason but odds are that’s because green lasers and red lasers are the first to have been launched on to the market. So people probably got used to using them, which is why they prefer them for such purposes.
