According to an article in the BBC News, a new water system is being installed at a Sunderland dry ski centre after Legionella bacteria were found there. Legionella was initially discovered at the Silksworth Sports Complex Ski Centre in June of this year. As a precaution, the ski centre was closed so that remedial work could take place. The ski centre intends to reduce the risk of future Legionella contamination by installing its new water system. It is hoped that the work will be completed by the end of August. Julie Grey, Sunderland City Council’s Head of Community Services, said: “The investigation was undertaken as a precautionary measure, after regular tests showed higher than usual levels of contamination.” To reduce the danger of a Legionella outbreak, early detection is key. The Legionella Intelligence tool by the company Black Box Intelligence aims to assist in this area. It monitors multiple critical points in a water system, and sends warnings if any reach the optimum temperature for Legionella to multiply. In this way, it can help establishments detect where Legionella could be a risk before the bacteria spread. http://www.jla.com/our-products-and-parts/energy-intelligence/ JLA0808211A
