The advancements in technology regarding keeping track of time are absolutely amazing. We all walk around with cell phones that not only allow us to communicate, but also keep track of the time. As soon as you cross the border into a new time zone the clock is instantly updated with seemingly no effort at all. It’s hard to believe that back in the good old day’s watch winders were a necessity for anyone who wanted to have a reliable way to keep track of time. Now only people with fancy collector’s item type watches have any use for them. Most people don’t even wear wrist watches anymore since they all have cell phone’s in their pockets, but the calibration that makes a wrist watch work is truly amazing. Instead of using a winder like very old fashioned watches did, new advancements in wrist watch technology allow the watch to stay wound by the movements of your arm. With too much winding, your watch wouldn’t work very well either so it has a mechanism within it that regulates how much it is able to be wound at a time. It’s crazy to think that in such a short period of time watch winders have gone from being a necessity to a toy for collectors. Even more amazing is the fact that atomic clocks can keep perfect time regardless of whether they have any kind of winding device. Who would have thought even twenty years ago that we’d be carrying around cell phones that could make adjustments for changing time zones on their own? With so many technological advances all the time, it almost makes you wonder what kind of time keeping invention people will come up with next.
