Simple Pleasures Make For a Rich Life Over the years, I have learned as time went on about how to savor life, and I have discovered that the trick for enjoying life is to pay attention to simple pleasures. I like simple pleasures because they are accessible to everyone: they do not cost a lot of money and every person has an opportunity to experience them. Some people may be consumed with stress, burnt out, tight on time, or may not remember the small things that make life so great. In fact, some people may be wondering if they have any idea of how to enjoy life at all. For me, in order to enjoy life, all you need to do is understand how to destress and how to chill out and then the small pleasures of life will blossom right before your eyes. Here are a few of my personal favorite tips for how to enjoy life: 1. Put on your favorite music, whether that means spinning the ol' turntable or firing up the ipod, and dance along around the house . 2. Spend ten minutes sitting outside on the front porch (or doorstep or lawn). 3. Shut your eyes and take one really long, deep breath. Be conscious of your chest expanding as the air flows through you. 4. The next time you are surrounded by people (in an elevator, standing in line at the post office, or maybe sitting in a meeting) wiggle your toes. Your shoes will be on, so it can remain your own secret. Focus on how good your socks feel and the way your shoes have broken in to flawlessly fit your feet. Or maybe, if you are not wearing socks, in that case notice how wriggling your toes can send little tingles running through your feet. 5. Give someone a big hug. If there isn't anyone around, go hug your own cat or dog. If you are all alone, then give yourself a nice, long hug. Physical contact is a great way to release tension and communicate how much you care. 6. Laugh more frequently. Watch a funny TV show or Comedy movie or discover some good clips on youtube.com. 7. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself out loud at least one pleasant thing that you would like to hear from someone else. 8. Take a brief nap....this is a true pleasure for me! 9. Roll your neck gently from side to side. Pay attention to your muscles as they stretch and sense your tension disappear. 10. Get an extra fifteen minutes of sleep at night. You will get out of bed more refreshed, energized and alert. Get more motivational words
