Upright freezers are a popular choice in many households. They save space well as help you save and preserve food. An upright freezer has a lot of storage capacity and helps you to organize is a snap. They open form the front and have several shelves, rack and bins. You can simple open the door and see all of the contents in a glance. It is simple to retrieve frozen items from your upright freezer because everything is within arm's reach. Best of all, an upright freezer doesn't require that you be able to stand on your head to reach the bottom. With an upright freezer you are better able to take advantage bulk food sales, seasonal food sales, and can buy meat in quantity to get a better price. You will also have the ability to grow and freeze your own fresh fruits and vegetables. By having an upright freezer, you will be less likely to waste food, since anything that would normally go unused can simply be frozen for future use. An upright freezer is also convenient for making meals ahead of time, for making homemade freezer jams, and for freezing homemade breads and other types of specialty baked goods. Upright freezer models can range from ten to twenty cubic feet. One easy way to determine how much space you actually need for an upright freezer is to assume that each cubic foot holds thirty five to forty pounds. Therefore, a ten cubic foot upright freezer will store approximately three hundred and fifty to four hundred pounds of food. This number can vary, depending on the bulk of the item that you freeze. This can be very helpful information if you package a cow every fall and you know that it will be 300 pounds of meat. Getting the right size freezer is critical because if you purchase too small of an upright freezer, then you may have to purchase another one to fit all of your frozen items. Some consumers worry about the costs associated with running an upright freezer. You can minimize costs by keeping your freezer space close to capacity. The cost of operating an upright freezer can also be dramatically reduced by being smart about where you put it. Placement in the direct sun, or in an outdoor area, where the temperature is not controlled such as in a garage or in a hot climate or close to furnaces and near water heaters will cause your upright freezer to use more energy. The harder a freezer has to work to stay cold, the more electricity it will use. Another important feature to keep in mind about an upright freezer is that a manual model will have to be defrosted at least twice per year. They do tend to be a little bit colder than an automatic defrosting upright freezer, while more convenient, frost-free models will be more expensive and use more electricity over the span of a year. You will have to decide if the extra cost is worth the convenience of a frost-free upright freezer. With an upright freezer you will be able to store the foods you love and will save space and save food as well as save money on all the things you love to eat.
