If you have taken the time to landscape and decorate your property with beautiful trees, shrubbery, flowers and yard d?cor then you may want to spend a little extra money on landscape lighting so that you can enjoy the beauty of your yard at night as well as during the day. With the right landscape lighting you will be able to light up your garden pathways and can accent certain ornaments, trees, shrubs or flowers as well as waterfalls or ponds in your yard. Landscape lighting can also add a dimension of safety to your yard to keep away uninvited guests. Here are a few great tips to keep in mind when installing or planning for landscape lighting. When purchasing landscape lighting you will need to first have an idea or a rough drawing of your yard and where you would like to place lighting. You may want to go out into the yard in the evening so you can see where you could use more landscape lighting or accent lights. Once you know how much landscape lighting you will need, you also need to decide if you want solar lights or landscape lighting that will need a power supply. Now that you have made those two decisions you will be ready to decide on appropriate landscape lighting fixtures and accessories and the other supplies you may need, such as appropriate bulbs and power supply materials. Positioning your landscape lighting correctly is essential to effective lighting. You can create some great effects by mixing different types and sizes of landscape lighting. Up lighting is often used to accent a tree with the fixture at the base whereas down lighting is the same idea only the fixture is up high up and shines down on a beautiful fountain or bush. This is a great way to show off flower beds, paths or steps. Spotlights with your landscape lighting create a focal point by illuminating an object like a fountain. One of the most dramatic techniques you can use is back lighting. If you place some landscape lighting behind a subject it will appear in silhouette and can be an extremely effective technique with dramatically shaped trees, shrubs or garden ornaments. Finally, you can also highlight a feature by using cross lights with landscape lighting, which is shining two lights from different directions to add dimension. Solar lighting is a popular choice for consumers because they are easy to install, require no wiring and won't increase your electricity since sunlight charges the solar panel in the landscape lighting that powers the light at night. By choosing the areas that you want to highlight in your yard with landscape lighting before you head out to your local home improvement store, you will be able to save time in return trips because you will be able to pick up everything you need in one trip. With the attractive fixtures and accessories in hand for landscape lighting you will be able to improve and add to the beauty of your gardens while accenting the unique formations and shrubbery in your yard.
