The type of light fixture used when selecting ceiling lights for the home is very important. The wrong fixture can throw off the desired look of the room and some particular fixtures do not serve the correct function for certain rooms. Fortunately, there is a large variety of sizes and styles to choose from. Using this guide should help find the right ceiling lights to fit your needs. The size of the light fixture is an important consideration when shopping for ceiling lights and it ties directly to the size of the room the fixture will be installed in. This is relevant not just to avoid a fixture that is oversized for a smaller room but concerns placement as well. The height of the ceilings can help determine which fixture to use. For example, for a room with a low hanging ceiling one type of ceiling lights to consider might be a flush mounted fixture as it will prevent bumping your head on a hanging fixtures. Conversely, a room with abnormally high ceilings might benefit from a chandelier or other lower hanging fixture to help avoid the need for tall ladders to simply change a bulb. Another consideration when preparing to install ceiling lights is where you intend to place them. For the dining room the light fixture should be centered above the table while other rooms may benefit from strategic placement to illuminate important areas. A larger room can often handle multiple ceiling lights to provide adequate light. When installing ceiling lights, it is good to install them at least seven feet above the floor while placement over a table should have at least thirty inches of space. Some ceiling lights require special, non-standard bulbs. This is particularly true of chandeliers but regardless of which fixtures you have chosen for your ceiling lights, be mindful of the type of bulb required. Another lighting option that warrants consideration is whether to use dimmer switches with your ceiling lights. Dimmer switches help control the amount of light you can shine inside the room, providing a boost to the atmosphere and mood of any room. Ceiling lights come in a variety of styles as well, each of them serving a different purpose. Chandeliers, pendant lights, track lighting, island lights, and flush mount ceiling lights are all example of the different types of ceiling lights available. Tied to this, ceiling lights fixtures come in various art styles as well. Ceiling lights can be presented in a modern, Art Deco flair or in a more refined, traditional style known as Colonial. While ceiling lights styles are primarily a matter of personal preference, it is also a preferred practice to match the style of the lighting fixture to the rest of the room. There are several factors to consider when shopping for ceiling lights. You can visit your local home improvement store to get more information about which lighting fixture best suits the needs of your home while improving the atmospheric qualities of any given room.
