Deck lighting doesn't have to be nearly as time consuming or complicated as building the actual deck. There are a variety of options to choose from, each offering different ways to provide new life to the deck. Using these tips will help making shopping for deck lighting a lot easier by giving you more things to consider than you may have thought was available. One strong consideration that should be given when selecting your deck lighting is that of safety. Placing lights around stairs, railings, and walkways can prevent unnecessary falls and if your yard has a pool then that should also be a priority for deck lighting to lower the risk of slipping. The entire deck or yard doesn't need to be under a barrage of bright light but the right amount of deck lighting will maintain the safety of the deck. Deck lighting can be very affordable and one inexpensive way to keep the costs down is through using string lights. These are available in a wide variety of styles and are very durable, particularly for the comparatively low price of purchase. String lights can be a fun way to mix up the design of the deck lighting and the diverse selection allows for some personalization. An unexpected benefit that can come from your deck lighting is that of serving as an insect repellant. At first glance this seems counter intuitive since many bugs are attracted to light. However, installing some tiki torches as part of your deck lighting can drive the annoying insects away. The oil burned by these torches serves as an effective insect repellant. Additionally, there are some LED bulbs available for other sources of deck lighting that don't attract bugs or moths. The primary purpose of effective deck lighting is to provide sufficient lighting for the area as well as creating a desired ambience for the deck itself. As part of the overall experience, deck lighting can be used to highlight individual structures or special features you would like some attention to be drawn to. This can vary from shining a light on a statue to highlighting the garden or other plants in the yard. The most frequently used area of the deck is likely to be at the tables where you go to sit. As such, the table should be well lit from the deck lighting arrangement. This can be accomplished through outdoor table lamps, candles or other lighting fixtures which could include the umbrella itself. The deck lighting for the tables should be easy to control and provide enough light for whatever activities you need such as eating or reading. While you are arranging your deck lighting you should pay some attention to whatever water features your yard may have. This could include ponds, reflective or lighting pools, or even bird baths. One simple solution to this manner of deck lighting is to purchase some floating solar lights. These can be dropped into the water then paid little to no more attention to since the sun will do all the work for you in powering this additional aspect of deck lighting.
