Choosing the right lamps and shades for a room in your house can seem impossible, especially with the hundreds of choices available. Understanding the different types of these lamps and shades can help you narrow down your selections to find the right fit for your home. Lamps and shades come in many styles, sizes and colors and finding the right ones comes down to personal taste, functionality and design. Lamps and shades can be fastened together using multiple systems, and are usually very easy to assemble. Depending on the size and style of the lamps shades these fittings can be either a spider with harp, uno or a clip on. A spider with harp fastening system is used primarily in large floor lamps or table lamps because they provide the maximum amount of support. The uno fasteners are used mainly with small table lamps, and clip-ons are only used for small lamps and shades, like chandeliers. Lamps and shades come in many shapes and sizes, and bell shaped shades are the most popular. These shades are wider at the bottom than they are at the top in a pyramid shape with an open top. These types of lamps shades work best on side tables, nightstands or desks as they disperse a lot of light downwards onto the surface. These lamps shades are great for reading beside and creating great mood lighting. Other popular lamps and shades are drum, square, and hexagonal shaped and offer different types of light output and style aspects. Drum shades are cylindrical and they are very contemporary and modern, but can work well in any setting. Square or rectangular lamps shades are very clean looking and accent other square sharp lines in a room. Hexagonal lamps shades are very nice in corners and provide a great geometric centerpiece if placed on a table. No matter what style of lamps and shades you choose, make sure they fit together and can fit on the table or area you are looking to put them. There are other lamps and shades out in stores that you can buy that offer a unique feel and can be a real art piece in a room. Glass lamps and shades are very ornate and beautiful, and can be an accent for any room. Glass lamps shades can either come as blown glass or stained glass shades. Stained glass shades offer a more traditional feel while blown glass shades are more modern and abstract. Lamps shades can be made out of numerous types of materials and can even be custom made to fit in with the existing d?cor in your home. Lamp shades made out of silk or fancy linens can be shiny or decorative and add a bit of sparkle to any room. Choosing the right types of lamps and shades for your home should be easy if you have a theme already picked out for the room.
