The occupancy motion sensor is designed to attach to the lighting system in the room so that when no motion is detected for at least ten minutes it will switch off the lights. There are also motion sensor models that can be programmed to turn lights off at a certain time of day, so that if anything is still on at that point it will be turned off. You can also get occupancy motion sensor models that will turn on when they detect the infrared changes of a person entering a room. You can get a motion sensor that incorporates all of these designs into one. You may wonder if the lights will be going off and on all night if you have pets in the house. However, you can get a motion sensor that is designed to ignore pets up to a certain weight, such as 30 pounds, and your animals will not trigger lights on and off by moving about the house. As you can see, using an occupancy motion sensor will save you energy and money as you won't have to worry whether lights got turned off properly. A motion sensor is also very affordable, so you don't have to worry about spending a lot of money to help save energy.
