Recessed lights are a great option to add lighting to your home or office. They are a subtle way to add modern design and are a great choice for home or business owners who are constructing or remodeling a space. There are no wires to conceal or exposed surfaces to dust with recessed lights. They are almost maintenance free, as all you have to do is change the bulbs in your recessed lights. Another term for recessed lights is can lights or pot lights. This type of lighting can be installed just about anywhere and depending on the desired effects for your recessed lighting, you have several options for using recessed lights for accenting objects or paintings in your home or office or for just providing general lighting. Recessed lights are embedded in the ceiling or wall in a circular cylinder container. There are many appealing reasons to consider the purchase of this type of lighting. Recessed lights provide lighting for a particular area and give a clean, precise look. Recessed lights are virtually invisible as they are installed inside your ceiling and the surface of your lighting area stays flush. Recessed lights can be installed just about anywhere in your home or office. They work great in kitchen areas and different sets of lights can be placed on different switches so that you can turn on the particular lights that you need and leave off the ones that you don't need at that particular moment. Recessed lights are also great in hallways and bathrooms and are great in a front entry to highlight special features of artwork or furniture. Reflectors are frequently used in recessed lights to increase light production and baffles can also be installed to minimize glares and moderate the brightness of the light. Recessed lights should be positioned with one fixture for every 25 to 30 square feet of floor space. This should be adequate for your particular space you are lighting. If you are trying to save money, you can purchase halogen or incandescent fixtures. Fluorescent fixtures are perfect for high ceilings and also are great for energy efficiency. Installing recessed lights is a quick and easy process, however you may have some added cost if you are unable to hook up the electricity yourself. Before drywall is installed on the ceiling, you simply affix the bracket on your recessed light canister to the ceiling joists using nails or screws. The canister is positioned so that it will be flush with the drywall. If you are remodeling, you will need to pencil in an outline of the required opening and then carefully remove the drywall from the area that requires the recessed lights. With a retrofit kit, you will easily be able to install your recessed lights into the desired place. The cost of recessed lights can vary tremendously and there are many different options to fit just about any budget. Check out your local home improvement center to find a wide variety of recessed lights to meet all of your lighting needs.
