Light is an integral part of your home decorating, and swing arm lamps can be a great way to get light right where you want it. Table lamps and floor lamps may make it challenging to get light in exactly the area you intend. Swing arm lamps are basically lamps that attach directly to the wall but have arms that swing out so that you can adjust the actual light to be directly above what you are reading or working on. Although you may not want to use this style of lamp in every room in the house, here are some great locations for swing arm lamps. One of the most popular areas that people like to use swing arm lamps is in the bedroom. Often, bedrooms are the perfect rooms for swing arm lamps because of their size and their layout. If you have ever wanted to enjoy reading a book at bedtime but your partner wanted to sleep, you know how important it is to have a light that you can direct only at your book so that it doesn't bother your partner. Table lamps often direct the light too low when you are sitting up in bed, and floor lamps may put out too much light. Swing arm lamps are a great choice because you can swing the arm and direct the light to just the right spot. They are also an excellent option because they are usually designed to be a 3-way light with a 3-way bulb. This gives you 3 choices of brightness so that you can adjust the light to the perfect level. If you work at a home office or a computer desk, it can be very nice to have a light on the desk as it gets darker in the evenings. However, a desk or table lamp will often take too much space. Using swing arm lamps can alleviate this problem and keep your desk clear while allowing you to have the light you need for close work. Another great location for swing arm lamps is in the living room. If you and your spouse each have a favorite chair where you like to read or do handwork, you may require different levels of light. By installing swing arm lamps by each chair, you can individually direct your own lamp to the right location and choose whether you like the low, middle, or high setting on the light bulb. You may really like the brushed nickel or polished brass finish with either a neutral or brightly colored shade. It all depends on how you have decorated your living room and whether or not you want the swing arm lamps to stand out or to blend in. Some swing arm lamps even come with a small desk attached to cater to the person who just needs a little space to read. It is amazing to find the many options that are available to you as you go shopping in your local home improvement center or lighting store.
