There are many types and styles of lamps that are available for your home, but if you need to save some space, you may want to consider looking at swing arm lamps. Swing arm lamps are attached to the wall and the jointed arm allows you to swing the actual lamp wherever you need the light. You may have seen a similar device at the dentist when they move a light around to shine just where the dentist needs it. Swing arm lamps work on this same principle. In a bedroom, it can be challenging to have lights built into the headboard because then you can't lean back when you want to sit up and read. Swing arm lamps would eliminate this problem because you can adjust the light exactly where you want it. Table lamps take up so much space on your small end table next to the bed that you don't even have room to lay the book down. Using swing arm lamps would allow you to use the entire surface of the table but also have the light that you desire. Many swing arm lamps also come with a 3-way light fixture. This means that you purchase a 3-way bulb and then you have 3 adjustments to the amount of light that is available to you. The low level is approximately 50 watts, the medium level is 100 watts, and the highest level is about 150 watts. This is perfect for those times when you need a little light and don't want to bother anyone else; you simply turn the lamp to the lowest level. If more light is required, you simply turn the switch again. You can use a regular bulb, but the switch will click twice with no light and then twice with light because it is trying to go through the three-level cycle. Swing arm lamps come in a variety of colors and sizes, so based on your needs you should be able to find the ones that work best for you. For instance, if the walls in your home are white and you want the lamp to blend in to the d?cor and only be noticed when it is being used; this may be the best option. However, if you are working to match other d?cor in the room, you may prefer the polished brass or brushed nickel swing arm lamps. Another great place for swing arm lamps is above a computer or desk because you can tuck them away when you don't need them and then swing them over when you do. You may prefer the more modern black rounded lamp in this instance, while using swing arm lamps with nice pleated shades may look better in a living room or bedroom. Swing arm lamps are relatively inexpensive and are a great way to save space and still have adequate light. They can either be wired directly to internal power or can be plugged directly into an electrical outlet or be used with an extension cord.
