The first laser pointer that appeared on the market long, long time ago had a read beam. So it would not be wrong to say that people got used to laser pointers red long before other colors such as green laser pointers and blue violet laser pointers appeared on the market. And habit is a thing which not many people can fight with. Although there is not a significant reason for using laser pointers red instead of, say, laser pointers green, people still prefer them. Why? That is the question which most of the people probably keep on asking. Because they got used to them! Like it was mentioned above, laser pointers red were the first to appear on the market. People started using them for various purposes such as pointing out stars and other small objects in the sky; pointing out text and pictures on the screen while lessons or presentations are being delivered; and even for sending SOS messages. Laser pointers red were used for all those purposes for quite long because it was not several years before green and blue lasers appeared on the market. It is true – they could do the very same thing which laser pointers red could do – neither more nor less! The only difference was the color of the beam! But then why would people want to replace the kind of laser which they had already gotten used to. It would make no logic, would it? Using green lasers or blue lasers had been taken more as something extravagant – something which was not really needed. However, as we can see today, green lasers and blue lasers still managed to elbow their way, and they are even preferred for particular purposes. For instance, blue and violet laser pointers are preferred by mountaineers and climbers who are likely to use them as SOS tools for sending the SOS message in case they get in trouble. On the other hand, purple or yellow laser pointers are known and used by very few people though they are available on the market. It would just be somehow weird to use a yellow laser pointer, wouldn’t it? And that’s pretty much what people thought about green and blue lasers, keeping in mind that they had used only laser pointers red until then. Nowadays, laser pointers red can be used for pretty much everything. Lecturers and teachers prefer them for showing particular text on the screen while delivering presentations and lessons. Guides also use laser pointers red to show particular exhibits in museums. And young astronomers would never replace laser pointers red as red is the brightest color, and the laser’s dot is always seen on the sky no matter how dark it is…as long as the laser is powerful enough, of course.
