With the constant advancements of technology, parents are normally left behind with the trends that their children enjoy. Despite additional exposure to other forms of media outlets, TV remains the last frontier parents can guard their children against violent and adult content. Children still constantly watch shows and movies, though in different gadgets like laptops and phones. This is one of the few mediums left that the parents can safeguard the information that their children are taking in. Below are some things that a parent can ask himself in separating a good show from a bad one. The first question a parent can ask is if the TV show intellectually or physically engages with their child. Most of the educational shows contain activities and exercises that a child can do. This keeps them proactively engaged and glued to the show. It helps them develop their senses because of the challenges that a good show produces. Another question they can ask themselves about tv shows online is if they can respect what the show is all about. Parents do not necessarily have to like the show, or how it is made, but that does not mean that their child should be prohibited to watch it. Since a child has his own culture, let him develop it through media. What parents need to do is to ensure that the quality of the program will not be detrimental to the child’s development. The third question to ask is if their child can see themselves in one or more characters of the show. Because children will believe almost anything it sees, they think that tv shows online are also things that happen in real life. A parent should make sure that the child sees a role model in at least one character so they can pattern themselves from the right conduct that the persona shows. Finally, parents should know how tv shows online affect the thinking of children. A kid’s program obviously has the youth as its audience. This, however, should be further looked into because a show may perceive the audience as future citizens, future leaders or simply as an audience to enjoy the show.
