Steve Jobs is hailed as a creative and innovative mastermind of our time. He has almost single handedly changed the way our generation uses and perceives technology. Jobs created Apple Computers back in the 1980’s, when he was out fighting with Bill Gates for the best operating system for a home computer. Jobs has brought back Apple from failure multiple times over the last thirty years. He has done this by continuously winning the battle by bringing a new innovative product to the market. Today, the iPod and iPad have over 90% of their market within their industries. That is an astonishing number when you consider how many people own or want to own these products. Jobs has made Apple products iconic for our generation. Jobs recently was working on an add on application for the iPad, iMac, and Macbooks, which used pulse oximeter technology. A pulse oximeter, also known as a pulse ox, is a medical device used to measure the blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate of an individual. A pulse oximeter is usually found in a clinical setting, but recently its use has moved into the home as well. Apple has been researching into the uses of a pulse oximeter, and determined that various games and even graphic designing could benefit from the use of a pulse oximeter. Knowing your opponents pulse rate during a first person game has proven to be beneficial and popular amongst gamers. At the same time, Apple has determined that monitoring one’s pulse rate while surfing the web, helps determine how effective certain layouts and designs are. Even as Jobs steps down as the chief operating officer, he will still be chairman of the board and the pulse oximeter project is still set to continue. The news of Steve Jobs stepping down as the C.E.O. of Apple took a big hit on the technology world. The shares of the company fell almost 3% over the news. The drop in market was a reaction to the idea that Apple is losing their innovation genius. In fact, this may prove to be true, but we will not know off the bat. The reason for Jobs stepping down was related to his failing health. Over the past few years, Jobs has taken multiple leave of absences due to health reasons. The pulse oximeter might have been brought to his attention during these sessions where he would be exposed to them.
