Age spots are an unwelcome reminder that we are getting older, but by using the best age spot reducer treatment you can in fact get rid of them. But what are age spots, and why do we get them? Curiously enough, age spots are not actually caused by old age. However there is a link to aging, and it is that as you get older, accumulations or clumps of melanin form resulting is the appearance of so called age spots". Melanin is the pigmentation that is responsible for both your skin, and your hair color. But what is it exactly that triggers melanin production, and why does it clump? Melanin is produced by cells located in your epidermis (the uppermost layer of skin) called melanocytes. It is always present because of its color donating properties, but as we grow older, our melanin production slows down, and this is the main reason that some people's hair turns grey. The other key role that Melanin performs is to protect your dermis, (the middle layer of skin found directly beneath your epidermis, or outer layer), from the harmful UV radiation of the sun that can cause melanomas, or cancers. You see when you expose your skin to the Sun, melanin production automatically speeds up delivering increased quantities throughout your body. The melanin then converts the UV into heat which it them distributes harmlessly. However, so called melanin "clumping" can occur, and the more UV exposure you get throughout your life, the bigger the chance is of this "clumping" phenomenon taking place. When clumping occurs, age spots form. Even if you avoid sunbathing altogether you may still get age spots. One of the biggest causes comes from driving your car. UV from the sun comes in two forms, UVA, and UVB. The glass in your car windscreen naturally shields you from the UVA. However it does not intercept the UVB, and this is the one that causes the damage. So if you ever wonder why you've developed age spots on the back of your hands, just stop and think about all those hours you have spent in your life gripping a steering wheel in the sunlight. You may be interested to know that you can buy a special UVB protective film that can be applied to the windows of your car to block out UVB. This film comes in both clear and tinted options. Most of us will develop age spots as we get older. It is almost unavoidable and this is when you may need a quality age spot reducer. There are several ways that you can get rid of age spots, some are more invasive than others, and some may harbor harmful side effects. Skin lightening and age spot removal are very topical subjects, and there is an awful lot of information about them to be found on the internet. However you need to tread with caution. Not everything you may read is bona fide, (there are far too many scams around), and some products or treatments may have harmful side effects, especially for those on you with sensitive skin. One of the newer treatments is chemical peeling. A chemical peel is available in 1 of 3 strengths; mild, medium, or deep. Basically the process involves blistering the skin, which then peels off, to be replaced by fresh, unblemished skin. It can be quite painful and may cause harmful side effects, so is to be avoided unless your age spot problem is more chronic. There are also some new laser treatments on the market, but like any form of surgery, these are much more invasive, and can also be very expensive. By far the best way of removing age spots is to use a quality, natural, age spot reducer. There are several good products available, but even these can cause some unpleasant side effects. So in order to avoid any such unforeseen chain reactions, you should look for products that use only 100% natural ingredients. Look out particularly for something called Extrapone Nutgrass, an extract of the Nutgrass plant root, (a plant indigenous to India), which has been scientifically proven to reduce melanin production by as much as 40%. Products with this ingredient will successfully lighten your skin tone, and when applied to age spots, will make them disappear. But remember to apply with care. You should only apply to the area you wish to lighten, or you could end up looking like a patchwork quilt! Kalpana Rajagopalan is a well respected figure in the skin care community.
