This island is found in the Leeward Antilles, a division of the Lesser Antilles, located on the southern edge of the Caribbean just 17 mi (27 km) north of Venezuela. Having been isolated from the remaining Caribbean for the first five hundred years of its history by strong ocean currents, it has more in common with South America culturally. Popular ARUBA RENTALS are perhaps the best option for visiting this island paradise, giving the visitor economy, privacy, and the unique experience that hotels cannot. This 69 square mile (180 sq km) island, unlike much of otherwise tropical Caribbean, has an arid climate and a desert vegetation. All elevations are less than 620 feet above sea level, and there are no rivers to mention. Temperatures vary little through the year thanks to the moderating influence of constant gentle Atlantic trade winds. Annual ambient temperatures are in the 78 to 89 degree (26 - 32 C) range. Water temperatures are constantly in a warm 80 to 83 degree (27 - 28 C) range. Eighty percent of the 103,000 people living on the island are of mostly Native American extraction mixed with some Spanish, Italian, Dutch, French, Portuguese, British, or African ancestors. Tourism provides a high standard of living and makes up about 75% of this economy. Most population is found in the Southern and Western portions of the island. These areas are protected from the harsh Northeasterly ocean currents and contain many sandy beaches, harbors and excellent sites of outdoor water activities. Besides the excellent opportunities here for sunbathing on the beach, swimming in the turquoise surf, deep sea fishing, ocean sailing, and popular wind sport activities like kite surfing and land surfing are available for the enjoyment of visiting tourists. World class diving and snorkeling opportunities abound. Eight spectacular wrecks, many coral reefs, and up to 100 foot dropoffs provide hours of diving fun. Colorful tropical fishes add to the grandeur of this underwater wonderland. For those wishing to stay on land there is golf, hiking, bicycling, rock climbing, horseback riding and duty free shopping. Caves are waiting to be explored and a donkey sanctuary and jeep rentals for touring will occupy many hours time. Casinos, more than 200 restaurants featuring Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French, and Dutch cuisine, and a vibrant night life round out the roster of available activities. A variety of ARUBA RENTALS are available to facilitate an enhanced enjoyment of this island's offerings. For the same, or less money they can provide more privacy and living space and each one has its own individual character.
